British brides-to-be are increasingly turning to lavish spa breaks in some of the UK’s most “Instagrammable” destinations, according to Stag and Hen Powerhouse Last Night of Freedom.

Leafy parts of the UK, like York and Bath, are experiencing a massive surge in hen do bookings, while Edinburgh is awash with hens seeking an altogether more sophisticated send-off into married life. Since the pandemic, Edinburgh has become a haven for hen dos soaring by almost 200% since covid restrictions ended. In York, the number of trips have doubled in the past 12 months. Bath has become a hit with brides-to-be seeking a soak in the town’s ancient Roman spas – and some pampering in picture-perfect party pads.

We asked Matt Mavir, Founder of the stag do and hen do supplier, where British hens are celebrating and what they’re doing for the gram.

“Demand for more Instagrammable destinations has skyrocketed since covid. Being in lockdown has made people realise they want to be together and for once-in-a-blue-moon events like a hen do, they want to go somewhere that looks and feels amazing.

“What we are increasingly seeing is demand for hens who would rather spend their weekend being pampered in a five-star spa in Edinburgh or Bath rather than a bar crawl in some city they’ve probably been out in three or four times already. A lot of these groups are professional women – doctors, bankers and lawyers – and many don’t want the stereotypical hen experience.

“If they book a group activity, it is more likely to be a craft workshop, a spa package or even mobile yoga, which is so popular we now offer it almost everywhere. And they want a weekend of high-class cocktails, Champagne, fine dining and massages which is why the likes of York and Bath are viewed as the perfect retreat.
