When and where is Euro 2024 being held?
Euro 2024 will be the 17th edition of the tournament, the first of which was held all the way back in 1960. Germany has the privilege of hosting this year's tournament, with the first game kicking off on 14th June and the Final set to be played on Sunday 14th July *makes note in calendar*.
Italy are the defending champions (having left England fans with some bad memories from the 2020 Final), and they will be looking to triumph for a third time. However, 23 other nations stand in their way. It’s sure to be a rollercoaster of a summer with some shocks guaranteed along the way.
How do I set up a sweepstake?
Firstly, for anyone who doesn’t know, a sweepstake is a contest traditionally based on major sporting events (Euro 2024 being a perfect example), where entrants pay an equal stake before choosing a team at random.
Here’s a quick breakdown of how it works:
- Everyone pays the same entry fee and picks a team at random. Think of it like a lottery, but for the Euros! You can use a physical hat to pull teams from, or make use of a handy online sweepstake generator in order to choose teams fairly.
- The entry fees go into a pot, creating the prize money. With 24 teams in Euro 2024, there's room for 24 entries. But don't worry if you don’t have exactly 24 players. If you’re a little short on numbers then you can offer two picks per entry. If you’re on the other side and more than 24 people want to get involved, you can go ahead and run multiple sweepstakes!
- The winner is whoever picks the team that lifts the trophy! Depending on how generous the organiser of the sweepstake is feeling, they may even award prizes for the runners-up and third place.

How do I collect the money for a sweepstake?
So you’ve got commitment from everyone, after all, who wouldn’t want to take part and enjoy some fun? Before any of this can happen though, you need everyone who’s taking part to chip in their entry fee. Sweepstakes don’t work too well without any money to win!
In the past, this would be the part where the head-scratching turns to the impending doom of chasing people every single day for the money they owe. In the blink of an eye, the light-hearted office sweepstake has turned into a full-time admin job. Even worse - the people who have picked a team that are unlikely to win are all of a sudden very quiet (Paul in IT, we’re looking at you!).
The next problem comes in the slightly unusual form of actually receiving the money. Yes, you read that right, actually receiving the money can cause issues.
24 people are now planning to drop money into your personal bank account at various days and times over the next month (in amongst your lunchtime meal deals and Starbucks coffees!). It’s difficult to track. Some people may even want to give you cash (what are you going to do with those pound coins?!).
Now you’ve got a mixture of random coins/notes in your hand that need to be cashed into your bank, payments in your bank account hidden amongst your personal transactions and the ongoing problem of some people who haven’t got around to paying you because setting up someone new to pay on their online banking and actually paying you has become a job for later, and then for tomorrow, and then for the day after…… (you get the point).
The easy way to collect money from a group of people
Don’t fret - we’ve made it easy for you as an organiser to collect money and it’s just as simple for contributors to pay into your pot. Setting up a Collctiv pot can be done in less than a minute and sharing the payment link or QR code with your group is even easier, no matter what channel you use to communicate.
People use the link/QR code to access the payment screen and then tap to pay into your pot using their desired payment method, including ApplePay and GooglePay. They don’t need to download an app, sign up to anything or do any banking. Within a couple of taps and 10 seconds later you’ve got your money. It really is that simple.
The money sits in the pot you’ve created for the specific event and can then be withdrawn to your bank account in a lump sum so it all remains ring fenced until you have the final amount in advance.
Say goodbye to the time and effort that comes with scrolling through pages of bank transactions. Instead, you can track the total amount you’ve received for this event, along with the names of the people who have paid you.
Take back control of your time. Take away the friction of payment. Take away the excuses. Get paid what you’re owed.
