Our Top Ideas for Hen Parties in Bournemouth!
The beautiful coastal town of Bournemouth is a fantastic location for a Hen Party. It offers a perfect mix of beach vibes, amazing fine dining opportunities combined with hip boutiques and award-winning gardens.
We know how exhausting it can be to usher 20 excited women onto a plane to fly abroad for a weekend, let alone making this possible for people with small kids or other caring responsibilities. Bournemouth eliminates the need to fly abroad without needing to compromise on the distinct feeling of calm you only get by the sea.
Bournemouth has amazing golden beaches that spread across 7 miles. They are kept incredibly clean and in tip-top shape for you to enjoy. With colourful beach huts ranging from traditional landmarks built in 1909 to more contemporary designer beach pods created by Wayne Hemingway you are guaranteed to enjoy the sights and sounds.
We had the chance to speak to six incredible businesses based in Bournemouth that will help to make any Hen Party unforgettable. To make it even easier for you to organise the ultimate weekend in Bournemouth, we’ve structured this post with our top ideas for hen parties as an example weekend and have sourced you some amazing offers.
Havana Beach House
Let’s start with the foundation for any good weekend, the accommodation. Havana Beach House is a former surfer hotel turned holiday rental. Krisha is in charge of the House and as a former surf coach, she knows all the amazing spots nearby.
What they do
Havana Beach House is a unique, boutique, large self-catering holiday house that sleeps up to 26 people, located on a beautiful cliff top in Bournemouth offering fabulous sea views of 7 miles of golden beaches.
The beach house is less than a five-minute stroll from all the local attractions of Bournemouth with a large variety of Bars and restaurants. You can also book in-house catering and evening BBQs by Surf Shack Spa.
The house is large and spacious, spread over four floors and designed to provide comfort in a tasteful, yet relaxed environment.
Great for
Anyone with a love for the beach and a large Hen Party group.
Price point
The price point varies depending on the season and number of guests, so it’s best to liaise directly with Krisha and the team. The deposit is £1000 on booking with the remainder paid two months before the booking. They also hold a £500 refundable security damage deposit.
Additional extras
The facilities at the house include a Games room, double cinema lounge and large garden with hot tub, so make sure to keep some time free to enjoy these.
Havana Beach House is set just one road back from the beaches and very close to Bournemouth Pier with secure off-road parking for up to 4 cars.
Good to know
The hot tub can be hired at £200 for weekends or £230 for one week. The house is brilliantly located near the Bournemouth Pier and there are lots of places to eat and drink within walking distance which eliminates the need for taxis.
During the off-season, you can book the house for 2 nights (mid-Nov - mid-Jan, except NYE) and during the main season, they have a 4-night minimum stay.
Havana Beach House is also closely linked to Surf Shack Spa!
Is it a Surfing School? Is it a shack, or is it a Spa?
Well, it’s all three of them combined in one! Aimee and Terry, who run Havana Beach House, also own Surf Shack Spa. A phenomenal space that is located right behind the Beach House.
You can rent the Spa for a four-hour private session for £35 per person. The Spa is located in a super-cool Shack with a really laid back outside area, twinkling fairy lights inside along with a hot tub, a sauna and huge projector screen for you to play your favourite film (got to be Dirty Dancing surely?!) or a bespoke DVD of pictures from the bride's dubious past!
The Surf Shack Spa is licensed so you also get a fully-stocked bar with cocktails, spirits, mixers and beers. You’ll be greeted with a Prosecco on arrival and to give you the privacy you want, the bar is only going to be manned when you want to refill your drinks. Private bartender, I hear you say? There is a bell to request your next bevvy! How awesome is that?!
Sessions can be booked for either 10am - 1pm or 4pm - 7pm which entitles you and your guests to food, drinks, a sauna and great fun. All for just £35 a head, what more can you ask for?
Surfing…
Surfing is another service provided by the Surf Shack Spa! See, now the name makes sense!
Terri is a surfing instructor and offers surfing or Stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) lessons or group sessions for £40/£25 per person. Wicked, I know: and all accessible less than a stone's throw away from the Beach House.
To secure your booking for either, you’ll have to pay a £50 deposit with the balance due two days in advance. You can book via email by completing a form.
We know that Havana Beach House and Surf Shack Spa offer plenty of great activities to fill the weekend, but there is much more to see in Bournemouth, so let me talk you through my idea of the ideal hen weekend.
The best way to start a Hen Weekend is to get a feel for the town via a city tour and who better to deliver this than Bourne2Cycle.
Bourne2Cycle
Marcin who has extensive experience in the hospitality industry came across the beer bike in Prague and got inspired to bring a group biking option to Bournemouth. He loves hosting and his personality provides you with a 100% fun guarantee.
What they do
Bourne2Cycle offers group bikes for rental that are top quality road-legal bikes. They are hired out with a driver for a fun day out for the duration of an event of approximately 1 hour to 1.5 hours for up to 12 people.
The trip starts and finishes at Yenton Hotel. You will head towards Old Christchurch Road known for its bars and East Overcliff Drive towards the breathtaking Bournemouth seaside.
To spice up your ride, you can bring your own drinks and music. What’s not to like? I don’t think many people can say they’ve channelled their inner spice girl, singing “Wannabe” and drinking Prosecco while riding a bike!
Great for
A bride who loves to be the centre of attention. The bike is a local sensation and you'll be greeted, peeped and waved at throughout your tour.
Price point
£24 per person for the standard tour and £29 per person for deluxe (includes a drink at the bar where the tour begins). You’ll pay a deposit of £50 with the remainder of the balance due two weeks before the tour.
Additional extras
Both experiences are accompanied by a person on a bike who will film your tour. With the standard experience, your video can be viewed on the social channels of Bourne2Cycle. The deluxe tour provides you with an edited video and pictures of your experience.
Bourne2Cycle also has a bunch of merchandise for sale. If you want a memento of the experience you can buy a Bourne2Cycle Letterman's Jacket, a Bourne2Cycle T-Shirt or Bourne2Cycle Trucker Cap.
Good to know
Bourne2Cycle offer up to 5 rides a day. Their busiest days are Fridays and Saturdays - so make sure to get your booking in. Tours take place at 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 5 pm and 7 pm.
The group bike has 12 seats - and two standing spaces so you can have a total of 14 people join the ride. The bike is equipped with comfortable seats, drink holders, storage for your belongings, seatbelts for extra safety and a rain cover in case it starts pouring.
Once you’ve explored the city by bike there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the expansive culinary scene in Bournemouth. Whether you’re after haute cuisine, some delicious fish & chips, mouth-watering comfort food or just a snack, you won’t have to search for long to find something that hits the spot and lines the stomach for a weekend of fun.
The perfect Saturday morning activity to wash away the approaching hangover is a session with Shaka Surf.
Shaka Surf
A surfing and paddleboarding school based at Branksome Dene in Poole Bay just a 20 min walk from Bournemouth. Mark started the business as a hobby in 2015 and it has since become a full-time profession for him.
Mark first got into paddleboarding as part of the wave project which is a charity that focuses on kids with autism - he's been all around the world surfing and took his learnings back to Bournemouth to create the ultimate surf school.
Shaka Surf has a real Caribbean/Mediterranean feel with gazebos on the beach. They also have a shop, both physical and online, where they sell surfboards, paddleboards and other merchandise.
What they do
Shaka Surf is perfectly located to have fun in the water. They offer paddle boarding, surfing or kayaking sessions for all ages and abilities.
You can also hire surf and paddleboards if you are already a pro on the water.
Whether the lesson will focus on surfing or paddleboarding will partially be defined by the weather. Rougher seas call for surfing and no wind is ideal for stand up paddling.
Great for
Any mermaid brides who love the water.
Price point
£42 per person - bride/groom goes free for groups of 8 or more. £20 pp person deposit taken over the phone during the time of booking and remainder paid on the day.
Additional extras
The lessons last 2 hours. You’ll start with a fun-filled warm-up on the beach before heading out to the sea. The focus of the session is on having fun - they have a giant paddleboard for you to try to get as many of the party on as possible...make some bets on who will be the last one standing as you head out to sea!
Mark and the team will also take plenty of pictures to capture the spirit of the day, so you have a keepsake that you can look back on for years to come.
Good to know
Safety is particularly important when it comes to watersports. All instructors at Shaka Surf are ISA certified and have lifeguarding certifications ensuring they are trained in first aid.
You cannot be under the influence upon arrival and you can't drink during the session if you want to do the activity. This is why the sessions make for a great late morning/early afternoon activity.
Shaka Surf also hosts the annual “Dogmasters” event - a dog surfing championship turned festival with a stage / live music, a local radio station reporting and many different stalls. Even “The One Show” filmed the spectacle and featured it on their show so make sure to check it out.
After a busy morning with lots of fun by the beach, we recommend some more relaxing activities in the afternoon such as Daisy’s 60 minutes Crafts and some treatments by Bay Health and Beauty. Both activities are based at your own venue and with the 60 minute Crafts being self-led you could even combine the tasks. Some of you can craft while others have their treatment and vice versa. Genius, I know!
Let’s start with Daisy’s 60-minute crafts.
Daisy’s 60-minute Crafts
